Abstract Echocardiography has grown in the past four to five years. the technique has become a major diagnostic tool in clinical cardiology. This is not only because the technique is non invasive and offer no hazards to the patient, but also because the examination provides information which is uniuue and is not available with other test. In this discusion not only are the advantags of echocardiography described but also its limitations, .pitfalls. and points of confusion, Echo is very useful in detection of mitral stenosis, not only for quantitating the degree of stenosis, but also for assessing the pliability of the valve, and its suitability for commissurotomy, also echo has proved to be valuable in the diagnosis of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, aortic insufficiency and prolapsed mitral valvee. |
