Abstract Our study comprised 72 healthy infants and children. Their age ranged from 8 month to 12 years undergoing elective surgical procedures on lower abdomen, genitourinary system and lower extremity. All patients were premedicated with 0.02 mg/kg . Atropine sulphate intramuscular injection 30 minutes before induction of anaesthesia. They were divided into 6 equal groups 12 patients each. group I : Control group (general anaesthesia-intravenous morphine) this group received general anaesthesia and post operative analgesia was accomplished by intravenous morphine 0.05 mg/kg started after surgery. group I1 : (caudal xylocaine). This group received general anaesthesia and caudal xylocaine 10 mg/kg (1% solution) .group 111 : (caudal bupivacaine) This group received general anaesthesia and caudal bupivacaine 2.5 mg/ kg (0.25% solution) group IV: (Caudal xylocaine-morphine)This group received general anaesthesia and caudal xylocaine 10 mg/kg 1% solution with morphine 0.05 mg/kg. group V : (caudal bupivacaine-morphine) This group received general anaesthesia and caudal bupivacaine 2.5 mg/kg 0.25% solution with morphine 0.05 mg/kg. |
