Abstract

RLr experiinent vas conducted at the aninla1 production Research I n s t i t u t e e , B;inistry of Agriculture, at the Experimental S t a t i o n of Salrl?~P oul t ry fazm t o o b t a i n data on some c h a r a c t e r i s t i c performance of two l o c a l breeds of chickens, Silver Xontazah and Matrouh. One hundred arrd sixty one week old chick from each breed were divided into two group and fed two Levels of rotein d i e t 17 % and 20%protein -Lhrough the s t a r t i n g period from 1 - 7 weeks of age . At 8 weeks of age each group fed e i t h e r 20 % or 17% protein d i e t s from the two breeds through the starting period which was divided i n t o two new groups. One of these new groups was provided with 17 % protein d i e t while the other group wns fed 14 43 protein d i e t through the growing period from 8 to 29 weeks of age . At 20 weeks of age a l l the d i e t s were switched to a laying d i e t containing 17 % protein until the end of the experhent at 40 weeks of age . Live weight and relctive grcwth rats, feed and protek conversion, age at sexual maturity, egg weight egg production and mortality rate were parameters used t o compare between the two breeds .
