Abstract
The effectiveness of three synthetic organic conpounds against phyt ophagous pests has resulted in t h e i r g r e a t l y expanded user Several complications have beea arised froin t h i s expanded use, aliloix which the p o s s i b i l i t y that the i n s e c t i cide ,my be absorbed and a l t e r e d plant composition provided s~perioro r ml-nutrition f o r both p e s t s , !Thus, t h i s study was undertaken t o determine the e f f e c t of c e r t a i n i n s e c t i - cides cn the v i t a l i t y of mites and aphids i n rektion to NpK uptake by barley, The data could be simirised i n two main p a r t s , the first concerned with the e f f e c t of t e s t e d i n s e c t i c i d e s on the NpK uptake and the seeon2 p a r t d e a l s with the e f f e c t of NpK def i c i e n t plants on the v i t a l i t y of mites and aphids, Part I: Effect of i n s e c t i c i d e s on the uptake of NpE: _---A&- _ L - . . ..A &I. . .% _A.L^ -.A ^^LI-..I----_I *- -_A I. The r e s u l t s showed t h a t the r a t e of uptake of K by barley was severely inhibited especially a t high l e v e l s of insecticides. 2. Appreciable i n h i b i t ion of K-upt a!;@ had occured following spraying of shoots w i t h cytrolane, curacron and- sevemol, respectively.
