Rice and wheat are considered essential and strategic crops. Rice is important on both feeding and exporting sides. Wheat is also important because we import it. Both are basic crops that are marketed co-operatively in Egypt. The study aims at detecting the reasons that hinder achieving the aims of the co-operative marketing of rice and wheat crops in kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. The study also aims at knowing the factors that affect the quantity of wheat de 1 ivered co-operative ly to the assemblage centres. because those factors are crucial for the success or t failure of the co-operative marketing of crops. The study depended on a questionnaire collected through interviewing of the farmers. The sample size is 338 farmers (240 farming rice and 148 farming wheat). The collected data was tabulated and statistically analyzed. The OLS method was used to estimate the Co-efficients. Some statistical tests sach as F and T tests as well as coefficient of determination were used. The stepwise procedure was utilized in getting the results of the study. The main results of the study were as follows: 1. The rice and wheat production capacity in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate: The cultivated area of rice decreases significantly with an average rate reached about 1.3 thousand feddans annually in the period 1971-1990. At the same time, the rice productivity increases non significantly with an average reached about 3 kg per feddan annually in the same period. Whereas the rice productive capacity decreases non significantly with an average reached about 2.3 thousand tons annually during the previous period. ~hecultivatda rea of wheat increases significantly with an average reached about 888 feddans annually during the period of 1971-1990. The wheat productivity increases significantly with an average. reached about 0.326 Ardab per feddan annually during the period. The amount of rice co-operatively marketed in Kafr El-Sheikh increases significantly with an average reached about 1.33 thousand tons annually; that is 0.6% from its annual average which reached about 235.5 thousand tons during the previous period. Concerning wheat, the amount co-operatively marketed in Kafr El-Sheikh reached about 6.49% of the production or about 4.6% of the co-operatively marketed amount in Egypt during 1975-1990. The co-operatively marketed amount of wheat inXafr El-Sheikh governorate increases significantly with an average reached about 7.5 thousand Ardab annually during the period. 3. Marketing efficiency of rice and wheat in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate: The efficiency of the co-operatively marketed rice reached about 49.53% and the average price the farmer receive from the consumer of rice which co-operatively marketed reached about 60.3% annually during the period 1976-1990. While the average efficiency of the locally marketed rice reached about 63.02% annually and the average price the farmer receive from the consumer of the rice marketed locally reached about 76.66% annually during the period. Concerning wheat the average efficiency of the cooperatively marketed wheat reached about 78.73% annually and the average price the farmer receive from the consumer for the co-operatively marketed wheat reached about 80.15% annually during 1970-1990. and the average marketing efficiency of wheat marketed locally reached about 75.96% annually and the average price the f- armer receive from the consumer of wheat marketed locally reached about 77% annually during the period.
