Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the marginal fracture behaviour of four high-copper amalgam alloys in clinical performance and by laboratory testing. The four materials were: Dispersalt6y, Sybralloy, Valliant Ph.D., and ANA 2000.the clinical study The four amalgam alloys were randomly placed by one operator in Class I and Class II cavities of posterior teeth. The number of patients available for the final recall evaluation at two years were 47’ patients with a total number of 175 teeth restored. Evaluation of the marginal fracture behaviour of the four materials was performed by an indirect clinical assessment technique. Black and white occlusal photographs of each clinical restoration were compared to a standard set of five photographs with eleven different categories reflecting increasing amounts of fracture at the margins. The mean marginal fracture indices for the four amalgam alloys were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis rank - sum test to compare the scores in a rank order fashion. |
