Abstract

study the effects of different Q liver disease on serum lipids and lipoproteins and weh4’th er these efects determine the severity of liver diseases. We aim also to study the changes of lipid and lipoprotein pattern occuring in patients with chronic liver disease arid the effect of these changes on prevalance of at-eros~le~-i)isni sti les, patienk . The study was conducted an 50 adult males and females with different liver diseases as well as 10 healthy subjects as a control p-. roup. All healthy incividuals were subjeet~d to clinical and laborahry itlveshgatkms to exclude those with diseases which rmght aifect. lipid metabolism. Also all hepahc pahents were examined clir~icallg and laboratory investigated to exclude those with other diseases which might affect lipid metabolism. Hepatic patients admitted to tile study were classified into five groups group 1 : ten patients \nth acute viral hepatitis group 2: tm patients v~iffic hmnic hepatitis group 3: hi patients with cijrnpensated liver iirrliosis IC.L.C). group 4: tell pahents wtll decompensated liver- cirrhosis (D.L C). . .W.F : F)at.ielit:s with acute viral hepa.t.itis were subject.ed to the previous investigations (except. the risk fatic! ) during acut.e phase and repeated again dusin- ~c onvalescence stag- e of the disease. According to our f~~l~.ltz Zer~~nt.ri: ltdl cfi~le~t.else~ve1l s were decreased significantly in all ac1j.t.e ph;’.se wheri cc:)mpared wit.h liealthy contl-01s J.. . ~-Y.IT: t~t;?.l~ :.h.:!lestes~lle .te1 ?,.vas insreased si-~ aificantlyd uring (:i;-l:,:alescerlcset ;qe iti patietits with 3cut.e viral fiepatitis, when 1::(.mprs;,.:t1o the same pat~eritsd uring :i~rut.pe li;2~p. - 1:esl~iit otal phospholipid levels were dei;sea.se(li nsignificanUy in all fiepat,ic pat.ie1it-s incllsding patients with aci1t.e viral hepahtis during acute phase when compared FVWhI ealthy controls. Serum bhl phospholipid level was increasesed insignificantly during convalescence stage in patients with acute viral hepatitis when compared to tile same patients during acute phase - Serum h-iglycerides were increased significantly only in patients with chronic hepatitis and increased insignificantly in compensated cirrhotic patients and patients with acute viral hepatitis during acute phase when cctmpared to control group. Serum tsiglycerides were decreased insignificantly in decompensa ted cirrhotic patients and patients with hepatocellular carcinoma wlhen compared to contml group Serum triglgcerides were decreased insignificantly during convalescence stage in patients with acute viral hepa.titis when cornpared to t.lie same patients during acute pha.se. Serum HDLc levels were decreased significantly in patients wth acuk vml hepatitis during acute phase while decreased insignificatitly in other hepatic patients when compared to healthy contmls . Serum HDLc level was increased insignificantly during convalescence stage in patients with acute viral hepabtis when compared to the same patients during acute phase. Serum LDLc levels were decreased significantly in all hepatic patients including pabents with acute viral hepatitis during acute.
