Abstract The aim of this work is to assess results of balloon mitral vlvotomy in children and adolescents with mitral stenosis , to study the changes produced by balloon valvotomy in the anatomy and function of the mitral valve by echocardiography after balloon dilatation , and to study the factors that affect the outcome of balloon mitral valvotomy. Rheumatic heart disease may be viewed as a disease of the mitral valve CzzJ . Approximately 25 percent of all patients with rheumatic heart disease have pure mitral stenosis , and an additional 40 percent have combined rnitral stenosis and regrgitation ) . Aschoff bodies have never been found in hearts without anatomic disease of the rnitral valve. |
