Abstract This study was carried out on the experimental farm of the Department of Animal Production. Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University at Kafr El-Sheikh and Sakha Research Experimental Station, Animal Production Research Institute. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of treating rice straw with urea or anhydrous ammonia on nitrogen content and to study the effect of supplementing then with some additives such as bentonite on improving the digestibility and nutritive value of the roughage and the performance of growing lambs (4 to 6 months old) throughout a feeding trial continued for 225 days. At lase the economical efficiency was calculated during the experimental period. The mechanism by which bentonite may be able to modify the concentration of ammonia and releasing it as concentration changes leading to a more efficient rumen fermentation, utilization of NPN and formation of microbial protein which uses in different metabolism processes reduces the feed cost and increases the economical efficiency. |
