Abstract The vagina (latin, ”sheath”) is an clastic musculomcmbrancous canal that connects the vulva wit! the uterus, extending upward and backward at an angle of 60 de irees to the hori/ontal plane. Vaginal length is generally between 9 and 10 cm with a slight forward curve from above downward. Its an erior and posterior walls lie in close contact, particularly in the nulli; ravid female, so that the vaginal canal is a potenital space under non ial circumstances. The vagina pierces the triangular ligament and the pelvic diaphragm at approximately 1 and 2.5 cm, respectively, from its external orifice. It is not of uniform caliber, being nearly twice as I irge in its upper part and somewhat flask shaped. |
