Abstract

Tumor therapy requires a lot of interventions either medical or surgical. Hormonal antagonists represent one of the most important modalities needed in tumor therapy, especially those which are hormonal dependent. One of the most important hormonal dependent tumors is cancer breast which is estrogen dependent and treated by antiestrogens as tamoxifen. Prostate cancer is androgen dependent and treated by antiandrogens as flutamide. Other tumors are associated with excess hormonal production like pituitary tumors that are mostly associated with excess growth hormone production. Growth hormone secreting adenoma leads to acromegaly and treated by somatostatin analogues as octreotide. Prolactinoma is another pituitary tumor that is associated with excess prolactin secretion that usually leads to infertility. Prolactinoma is treated by dopamine agonists as bromocriptine with surgival removal of the tumor. Adrenocortical tumors are usually treated by corticosteroid antagonists in case of cushing syndrome and aldosterone receptor blockers in case of hyperaldosteronism.
