Abstract

The thesis is entitled ’A Study in George Orwell’s Contradictions’. It Falls into an introduction, four Successive chapters focusing his contradictions and conclusion. The First Chapter shows how Orwell challenges conventionality as he desires to be of a special taste. He pours conventions into unconventional mould and vice versa. The Second Chapter focuses Orwell’s aesthetic crisis: the inner conflict between the aesthetic writer and the political one. The Third Chapter reveals how Orwell – in spite of himself and his age – created a story of special magic in which he could combine high seriousness with humour that is Animal Farm. The Fourth Chapter handles Orwell’s problematic issues that created of him a figure in English modernist literature: imperialism, war and revolution and feminism.
