Abstract
In this study, the effect of girdling, GA3, 2,4-D; either alone or in combination , on fruit set, june and preharvest DROP of washington navel orange, and also GA3 and ethephon as a preharvest treatments were investigated on yield, fruit quality at harvest and the behaviour of fruits during storage under room conditions throughout the two seasons of 1983 and 1984. The data obtained have revealed the following points :
I- Fruit setting. 1- Gridling, GA3 10ppm, and the combined treatment of GA3 10ppm plus 2,4-D at 20 ppm after flowering, significantly increased fruit set percentage. 2- The most significant increase was obtained when GA3 was applied with 2,4-D. The increase due to this practice reached 51.4 and 24% over the control values during the first and second seasons respectively.
II- June-drop, preharvest-DROP and accumulative drop. 1- All treatment used showed signifivcant reduction in june and, preharvest drop, and subsequent in the accumulative DROP recorded. 2- The most reduction was found with the combined treatment of GA3 10ppm plus 2.4-D 20ppm; applied after blooming and repeated every month till the end of September; also GA at 100ppm; applied alone after fruit set when fruit became 1 cm in diameter was the next effective treatments.
