المستخلص
The objective of this dissertation is to study the economics of oilseed crops in the world and in Egypt.Also, the study aims at examining and determining the major factors affecting the production of these crops, and the possibility of reducing the expected food gap for vegetable oils in Egypt.The dissertation contains five chapters. The first chapter deals with studying the economics of the major oilseed crops in the world, while the second chapter deals with studying the production economics of the major oilseed crops in Egypt, the third chapter is devoted to studying the production functions for these crops. While the cost functions are stidies chapter four. The fifthchapter is devoted to studying the consumption of vegetable oils and determination of the food gap for these commodities in Egypt. The study indicated that the area of oilseeds in the world averaged about 303 million feddans or about 9% of the agricultural area in the world during the 1977-1981 period. The major oihseed crops are soybeans cottonseed, peanuts. Sunflowers. Sesame, flax, and safflowe.
