Abstract • Evaluation of hybrids for heterosis breeding based on five consideration, mean performance, heterobeltiosis (BP), mid-parent heterosis (MP), standard heterosis (SH) and SCA effects indicated that, out of nine hybrid rice combinations, four hybrid combinations, namely IR 69625A x Giza 181 R, IR 69625 A x Giza 182 R, IR 70368A x Giza 181 R and IR 58025A x Giza 181 R recorded significant negative values and were most promising ones, for flag leaf angle, stem diameter, number of tillers per plant, panicle weight, grain yield per plant and Silica content and most desirable traits and could be utilized as commercial hybrid against the rice stem borer damage. • Among the parents, the CMS IR 69625A, IR 70368A and IR 58025A as female lines and Giza 181 R as restorer lines were found to have favorable genes for one or more traits along with yield and their could be used in hybrid rice breeding program against rice stem borer. |
