Abstract Feeding of farm animals encounters many Problems in egypt as well as in many countries of similar conditions due to the limited availabilty of feed resources As an example although the total population of buf faloes and cattle is 6- 2 million end that of the sheep and goats is Estimated by 6.0 million head (Miniotry of Agric. 1992) the total production of concentrate. feed which is disooed for ruminants is estimated by only 2.0 mallion tons/year. This simple statlstics shows that the ghare of either large or small ruminant from concentrate feed is only 0. 23 tons/head/year which is less than the amount of 0.5 kg/head/day The gap (imbalance between animal requirements and the available feed resources) in animal feeds is already confirmed by about 4-6 million ton concentrate feed mixture CFM) (Ali et al. 1998 : Desouk and El Noby 1990 and Since the Egyptian livestock require 12.73 million ton TDN yearly, but the available feed resources supply only 9.62 million ton, resulting in a gap of 3.11 million ton of TDN yearly an calculated by Abou-Akkada,( 1998) The rapid increase in human population, however represents an additional burden to the problem of this shortage in concentrates. |
