Abstract

The area under investigation comprises the northwestern coastal plain of Egypt. It extends about 460 Km from Burg El Arab in the east to El Sallum in the west. It occupies a strip of land parallel to the Mediterranean shore bordered to the north by the Mediterranean sea and to the south by the Maryut tableland in the east and Marmarica plateau in the west about (9200 Km²). It is also bordered to the east by the western delta fringe and to the west by the Libyan Desert.
