Abstract

Rabbit-fish siganus rivulatus locally named Batata is one of the most
importanl specis of tbe commercial fishes in the Mcditerranran sea. S. rivulatus is widely distributed in Alexandria territory and contributes about 41.5% of the total catch of siganid fishes in the Mediterranean sea.
The present study deals with the following subjects to throw light on the induced spawning of S. rivulatus :
1-some reproductive aspects of S. rivulatus such as gonad morphology (maturity stage ), gonadosmatic index and fecundity in order to know the suitable time for hormone injection treatment.
2-induced spawning of S. rivulatus by using Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone (HCG)
3-determination of some propagation parameters such as :
-egg diameter for hormonal treatment.
-fertilization and hatching rates.
-description of the embryological stages and the time required for each stage.
4-indoor rearing system for newly hatched larvae up to 85 days old.
5-experiments on the first feeding of newly hatched larvae.
6-feeding and growth of advanced fry.
The results obtained from the present study indicate that the gonads can be classified morphologically into six maturity stages, these are, thread, immature, mature, ripe, spawning and spent.
