Abstract Two fattening experiments were carried out on important crossbred cast rated steers at Dakahlie National Co . For Meat and Fodder ( Mansoura Sal ughter Hause ) during the years 1986and 19 87 . The objective o f the study was to investigate effects of replacing urea - supplemented f1ce straw Instead of part of the concentrate feed mixture. The firs t experiment lasted for 2 months using 19 calves weighing in average 515 Kg (on 2 groups ); whereas the second one lasted longer ( 5 month s) on more animals ( 150 calves) weighing in average 364 Kg. Urea - supplemented rice straw was gradually increased (till the adaptation of the animals for urea feeding)j thus the replacement rate was 1.5 Kg allowed b y 3 Kg of urea –supplemented rice straw instead o f 1 and 2 Kg of the c on centurate feed mixture in the first and the second month (and the next months in the 2nd experiment), respectively . These experiments were com pleted by studying: 1- Routine and clinical observations on the animals. 2- Systematic body weight f r calcultoing body weight changes and gain (daily and total). 3- Digestion trials to evaluate feeding values and feed-utiIlzation efficiency of both tested diets. 4 - Blood analysis to study the dietary effects on the function of some internal organs . s- Estimating percentages of dressing and bon eles meat and carcass quality as well. 6 - Evaluation o f the economic efficiency for using the tested diets |
