Abstract This study aimed at investigating the differences between two breeds of male rabbits, namely the local breed, Balady and the bouscat breed, in some semen characteristics and some characteristics of the histological structure of the testis, as well as the response of these two breeds to varying frequency, of semen collection. The study was carried out during the period from february to March 1980 at the experimental station of the Faculty of Agriculture., Mansoura University. Five bucks from each of the two breeds were used. They were housed individually and fed a commercial concentrated diet along with a limited amount of Berseem clover. Semen was collected using A.V. during four experimental periods each of one week, with one week apart. The ejaculation frequency varied among the f our experimental periods, being once/week, twice/week 3 times/week and once every day during the let, 2nd, 3rd and 4th periods, respectively. Measurements of semen volume, motility, abnormal and dead sperm percentages, sperm concentration, total number of live sperms and sperm output were determined experimental period, the buoks were slaughtered and sections of their testes were examined microscopically for different characteristics of the testicular tissue. |
