Abstract Two experiments were carried out in the summer season of 1971 and 1972 years at the farm of the vegetable research department of the Ministry of Agriculture at Barrage to evaluate four squash varieties, i.e. El-Eskandrani, Grey zucchini, white bush and Calaboza. The main results were as follows:- A. Earliness : Calaboza was the earliest variety in :initiating staminate and pistillate flowers while Grey zucchini was the latest one. B. Total yield : El-Eskandrani variety was the earliest and highest producer whereas Grey zucchini was the lastest and the lowest one. c. Fruit quality: a- Physical characters : 1. El-Eskandrani variety produced the taller fruit over the other examined varieties. 2. Calaboza variety gave rise to fruit characterized with the longest diameter among all other varieties El-Eskandrani fruit was the shortest one. 3. Calaboza variety had the greatest fruit size whereas the smallest existed from Grey zucchini. 4. Calaboza and White bush varieties reflected the most heavier fruit and El-Eskandrani the lighter one. 5. Fruit of Grey zucchini was characterized by the darkest green colour followed by El-Eskandrani then Calaboza and finally was the fruit of White bush which reflected white colour with lighter green shade. |
