Abstract
The possibility of increasing genetic variability a population by means of ionizing radiation or chemical mutagenic agents has received considerable attention in the last three or four decades. There are an abundant reports on the successful induction of useful variability for both qualitative and quantitive traits following radiation treatments. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of low, medium and high doses of gamma-irradiation on variance, means and correlations of several traits on three soybean varieties. The effect of radiation was evaluated on the first and second irradiated generation.
The genetic materials used in this investigated included three soybean varieties . These varieties were : clark, forrest and devis. Dry and soaked seed lots was irradiated with gamma-rays. The nine used does were a low doses of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 kr., a medium doses of 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 kr. And relatively high doses of 10.20 and 30 kr.
In 1981 and 1982 seeds from all treatments combinations were planted to evaluated the performance of the soybean varieties after radiation treatments.
