Abstract

This study was carried out within the project ” productive improvement of rabbits”. This project aimed to improve the productivity of rabbits by crossbreeding and/or incorporating some untraditional agriculture by-products in rabbits feeding in Dakahlia governorate. The present work investigated the effects of using dried cabbage leaves in the diets of growing rabbits. The dried cabbage leaves were used instead of clover hay at the levels 0.5.10.15.20.25 and 30% cabbage leaves. Sixty-three New Zealand White ( NZW) rabbits at 5 weeks of age were individually housed in galvanized wire cages, which enable us to record the individual feed intake from 5 to 13 weeks of age. The obtained results could be summarized as follows:- 1-live body weight :- The feeding treatment had no significant effects on live body weight at the period from 5 to 10 weeks of age. However, at 11.12 and 13 weeks of age its effects were significant. -The groups of rabbits, which fed cl in their diets at any level had almost heavier live weights throughout the experimental period from 9 up to 13 weeks of age than the control group. -The inclusion of cabbage leaves in rabbit diets at the level 25% resulted in the heaviest live weight at markting age either at 12 or 13 weeks of age.
