Abstract The use of fungicides to prevent seed and root diseases to control weeds is essential for the production of faba bean under irrigated conditions of Egyption soils. Unfortunately, the use of these chemicals may be incompatible with the need to properly inoculate faba bean with Rhizobium to ensure adequate nodulation and N2 fixation. Vitavaxm, benlate and Dithane are the most common seed applied fungicides recommended for faba bean. Thuse, they were used to study their mutagenicity in Rhizobium . Faba bean are often treated with fungicides to protect them from seed and soil – borne mycoflora to ensure emergence and plant stand while inoculum of Rhizobium is applied ensure effective nodulation. It is possible that the seed dressing chemical may cause genetic damage to Rhizobium inoculum. |
