Abstract

The present work was planned to study histochemically and biochemically the harmful effect of dimethoate, the organophosphorous insecticide, and the curative effect of Nigella sativa against this insecticide on liver, kidney, testis of male albino rats. Biochemical, histochemical and pathological studies have been carried out. In order to fulfill the aim of the present investigation, the experimental animals were divided into the following groups: 1¬ Untreated control group: Animals received food ad libitum and necessary water. 2¬ Nigella sativa treated group: Animals received food with 10% Nigella sativa seed and water for 30 consecutive days. 3¬ Dimethoate treated group: Animals were administered dimethoate insecticide using gastric intubation by 40 mg/kg body weight for 30 consecutive days. 4¬ Dimethoate + Nigella sativa treated group: Animals received dimethoate by gastric intubation as 40 mg/kg body weight and Nigella sativa seeds as 10% from food weight. The data obtained in the present study can be summarized as follows: I¬ Total body weight changes The data obtained showed that there was marked decrease in body weight of rats during chronic intoxication by dimethoate while moderate decrease in Nigella sativa L. treated animals meanwhile slight increase in dimethoate + Nigella sativa treated animals.
