Abstract

Hepatitis C virus is now known to be the primary causative agent of blood-borne non- A, non-B Hepatitis, and it is transmitted through contaminated blood and blood products, through blood transfusion, or through other means of transmission. The recent isolation of HCV and the development of a specific antibody test, might prevent posttransfusion non-A, non-B hepatitis by screening blood donors for anti-HCV, and also might prevent kidney recipients from HCV infection after the operation by screening all potential kidney donors first for anti-HCV antibodies.
