Abstract
Six field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm of Gemmiza Agricultural Research Station ( Gharbeia Provinoe ) during the two seasons of 96/1997 and 97/1998, to evaluate nine local onion strains ( collected from different districts of Egypt ) under various transplanting dates Differences among these tested local strain in growth characteristic, yield and its components as well as quality of onion bulbs were also studied.
A separate experiment was laid out in Randomize Complete Blocks Design with four replications was devoted for each transplanting date (D) in each season :
D1 : Early transplanting on 20th December.
D2:Mid transplanting on 10th January.
D3: Late transplanting on 1th February.
The tested nine onion strains were :
1-Sentrees (Menofyia ).
2-Narnol ( Kaliobeia).
3-El-Mansoura (Giza)
4-Moshtohar ( Kaliobeia).
5-New Nucleus 961 (from onion Research Section, F.C.R.I,A.R.C)
6-South El-Tahrir.
7-Giza 20 from Nobareia .
