Abstract

The present investigation aimed to investigate the effects of Nacl salinity, salt-shock, some growth substances (BA and LAB) and their combinations on certain morphological characters, chlorophy11 concentration, K+ (86 RB) uptake as well as mineral composition of wheat and sunflower plants. The tolerance ability and induction of wheat varieties to high salt levels was considered. Data of all aspects were presented and discussed. The results were summarized as follows : 5.1. Effects of NaCl salinity on certain morphological characters, chlorophyll concentration, K+(86 RB) uptake and mineral composition. 5.1.1. Root and shoot lengths: 5.1.1. Root and shoot lengths of the salt sensitive varieties of wheat (Regina and T-79) and the salt tolerant variety (Caribo) were decreased due to all salinity levels combined with low K+ concentration and the decrease was a concentration dependent. How ever, these parameters in the salt-tolerant varieties (Kharchia and S-8) and the intermediate one (S-69) were stimulated at low level of NaCl (25 mM) thereafter decreased. 5.1.1.2. K+ application to the growth media increased root and shoot lengths of all wheat varieties grown under NaCl salinity up to 50 mM thereafter decreased. In sunflower plants, root and shoot lengths were increased also up to 50 mM NaCl thereafter decreased.
