Abstract This study was carried out to investigate occurrence of dermatophytes in man, animals and soil and viability of spores of dermatophytes in infectd hair and scales out side the hosts. During this work 400 human samples (230 hair, 158 scales and 12 nails) were collected from patinets attending the out-patient clinic of venereology and dermatology of Zagazig university hospital and general hospital of El-Ahrrar and Facous in Sharkia governorate and El-Houd El-Marsoud hospital in El-Sayeda Zeinab, Cairo governorate. The localities of the patients, age, sex, occupation, name and their contact with animals were recorded. One hundred and fifty animal samples (hair and scales) were collected from farm houses, private farms, veterinary hospitals, abattoirs and animal production research station in Sharkia, Cairo and Kafr El-Sheikh governorates. All samples were collected from infected animals except buffaloes which were apparently healthy. Age, sex of animals and sites of the lesions were recorded. |
