Abstract In four chapters epidemiology and immunological characters of avian P. multocida were investigated in the present thesis. In the frist chapter epidemiological aspects of P. multocida including clinical signs, necropsy findings, host and species susceptibility as well as isolation, morphological, bichemical and serological characterization were tried.P. multocida has been isolated from different avian hosts including layer and broiler chicken, green pheasants, muscovy duck, wild duck, turkey, japanese quail and myna brid consequently according to infection frequency. P. multocida isolation from broilers was of higher frequency. Morphological, biochemical character and sugar fermentation pattern of the isolated strains were the identical to the general characters of the species. Serological identification using indirect hemagglutination test revealed that all isolated strains belonged to capsular type A.Concerning Heddleston’s somatic serotyping the highest frequency was for serotype 34(34.2%), followed by serotype 3(25.7%), serotype 1(25.7%) and serotype 10(8.5%). |
