Abstract This work aims to evaluate the role of radiology in diagnosing the different causes of dysphagia. Our work started by reviewing the liter~tures, the anatomy of the pharynx and oesophagus, the physio- ” logy of swallowing, the aetiology aad pathology of different causes ot dysphagia, and lastly the radiolo¬gical examination of the oesophagus. The material of our work was 50 patients (28 males and 22 females). Their age was ranged from 6 -65 years. They were cODLplaimd.ng of difficulty’in swallowing of various degrees, heart burn, nausia, and vomiting. Few cases were SUffering frOID loss of weight and cachexia. All cases were examined flouroscopically and by plain films of the neck and chest. Barium swallow examination was done to 36 cases. Endoscopy and biop&y were done to 11 cases proved radiologically to have a mass lesion. Our results showed that 14 cases were diagnosed by the plain films to have radio opaque foreign bodies (coins).
