Abstract
Twenty one adult patients submitted for herniotomy operation were chosen for this study they were classified into two group.The first group: (group A) consists of eleven patients were I.m. injected by butorphanol while,The second group: (group B) were given morphine.The respiratory rate, pulse rate and some f respiratory function tests were recorded before 1/2 hour and and 1 hour , following the injection of both drugs.There was significant depression in respiratory rate after 1 hour following butorphanal (p<0.001).There was a significant reduction in resipiratory rate following the administration of morphine after 1/2 hour and 1 hour.There was a significant reduction in pluse rate in butorphanol group as compared with morphine group.There was also,a significant reduction in fEF 0.2-1.2 in butorphanol group compared with morphine group.
