Abstract Purpose of the study: is to make a taxonomical study of spelling errors committed by freshmen students of the English Department and analyze them using a psycho – linguistic approach. Method: Error Analysis was used to analyze students semi- free composition. Sample: the sample consisted of 90 first year students of the English department, faculty of Education, Mansoura University. Tools used: Error analysis and a remedial program. Results showed that there is a need for a spelling program for the university level. Written activities should be provided in school stages. It was recommended that hand writing should be given importance since it is a necessity to write legibly. |
