Abstract

The present study planned to outline the effect of acrylamide and fried potatoes chips on the spinal cord of albino rats during postnatal life. In newborn of acrylamide-treated mothers, there was a disruption of ependyma with a progressive dilatation of the central canal. The apical and ventral ependymal lining cells were degenerated. On both of the lateral sides, there was a progressive thinning of the ependymal region; ependymal cell ciliary’s loss as well as periependymal edema, gliosis and destruction of the surrounding neuropil. Many of the neuronal cells showed either pycknotic or vacuolar degenerated nuclei. Examining the SDS-PAGE bands, there was variation in spinal cord in different ages. Transmission Electron Microscopic Observations, youngs maternally fed on diet containing fried potatoes chips, the grey neuronal cells possessed histopathological alterations similar to acrylamide-treatment .
