Abstract

Two pot experiments were carried out during the two successive winter seasons of 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 under the greenhouse of Faculty of Agric.; Mansoura university to study the effect of phosphorus fertilization and salt stress of irrigation water on faba bean (Vicia faba L. ). The treatments used as follows: These experiments were conducted in split block design with three replicates. Each experiment included 16 treatments which were the simple possible combination between 4 levels of saline water irrigation water (tap water, 1000, 2000 and 3000 mg/l.) and 4 rates of P-fertilization (0, 13, 26 and 39 kg P/fed.). The results obtained showed that, growth parameters, data of flowering, yield and yield components and chemical composition of the plant were greatly harmed by salinity. Addition of P-fertilization corrects the salinity effect and increases yield and yield component of the examined plant. The highest level of salinity S3 and P-fertilizer P3 are not recommended for faba bean plants. Conclusion: From the results mentioned previously it could be concluded that; • Irrigation of faba bean plant with saline water at the recorded in this investigation had a depressive effect on all parameters under study. • Soil addition of P-fertilizers for the plants irrigated with any level of saline water has been corrected the bad effect of saline tell the rate of 26 kg P/fed. • Thus; under the same condition of this study it can be recommended that; soil application of P-fertilizer at the rate of 26 kg P/fed. is necessary for minimizing the depressive effect of saline water on faba bean plant.
