The problem of study: This study sought to identify the role of the Egyptian press in supplying the readers with information about the policies of Western countries towards Arab issues, and this was done through monitoring the relations dimensions of the readers reliance on the Egyptian press as the main source for information about these policies, and the reasons and motives of this reliance, also to identify the status of newspapers, and the order of their importance compared to other mass communications , and the degree of public confidence in newspapers, and to study the impact of a number of variables on this relationship, as well as monitoring the effects of knowledge resulting from the reliance of readership on the Egyptian press as a source of information.
Division of study:
Section I: includes systematic study of the research topic, and trends of previous scientific studies and their results , it deals as well with the problem of research and its hypotheses and systematic procedures that have been pursued in the analytical and field studies.Section II: Includes the first chapter, which deals with the analysis of the theoretical entrance the study which is the dependency on mass communications theory , while Chapter II deals with the analysis of the policies development of Western countries towards Arab issues, the impact of the events of September 11 on the political orientations of the doer Western countries in the international system and its implications on regional issues , Chapter III deals with the limits of the relationship between the media and foreign policy ,Section III: it deals with an analysis of the results of the analytical and quantitative study of how newspapers work and a comparison summary between the discourses of the newspapers relevant to the study regarding it`s handling the attitudes and policies of the Western countries towards the arabian - and finally, Chapter V, deals with the general results of the field study also the results of hypotheses tests,in the study assumptions, the results of the analytical and field studies were compiled and access to a number of scientific recommendations.
The results of the study:
1 - The high rate of newspaper reading among members of the sample rate of 53.4% are permanent, and the rate of 34.7% are non-regular basis, compared to 11.8% in newspapers are low.
2- The Palestinian question came first among Arab issues of concern to the respondents, 24.5 per%, followed by the Iraq issue by 24.2%, and then came the issue of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon in August 2006 in the third by 17.4%.
3 - The high rate of interest in a sample study to follow-up policies of Western countries towards Arab issues, where the percentage of having a high interest 61.1%, while the percentage of people interested in the average 33.9% and 5% for having a low interest.
4- The sources of the respondents which they depend for information to follow up the policies of the Western countries towards the Arab issues wasr: the Arab satellite channels (22%)Egyptian local newspapers (20.3%)Sources of personal contact (19.3%) .
5 The newspaper Al Masry Al Youm came at the highest level of confidence in the study sample, followed by Al-Ahram,aldstor .
Recommendations:
1 - This study and other studies Proved that the level of knowledge of individuals affected by multiple factors, most notably the media, including newspapers and other media, especially what we might call the new means such as satellite channels and the Internet, in addition to the individual differences between individuals, and therefore can not know the impact of one means or a single source on the level of individuals knowledge, and in this context, there is a need for comparison studies between the impact of newspapers and other media .
2- Conducting a study on the treatment of Arab newspapers to the international attitudes and policies of Western countries towards Arab issues, and study a number of variables that can affect treatment, such as the ownership of the press, the impact of the relationship between the country that address the paper and the West country on the treatment .
3- A study on the evaluation of media and political elites and their perception of the limits of the relationship between media and politics, and the factors affecting this relationship .
on a number of important scientific recommendations.
