Abstract

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPI-I) describes a benignneoplasm of the prostate, it is considered to be the most commonbenign tumor in men. The aim of present study: study designedto assess the effect of Doxazosin in the treatment of LUTS due toBPH by urodynamic parameters. Patients and Methods: 68male patients complaining of LUTS, The age of the patients wasbetween 50 up to 81 years, patients was randomized to 2 groups,First group that received Doxazosin 1 mg tittered up to 4 mgtablets within 4 weeks, and the second group, received Placeboin the form of vit-b-complex tablets, as a control group: TheIPSS, Laboratory, Sonographic, Urodynamic assessment wasdone pretreatment, at the end of third month and at the end ofsixth month of treatment, and patient was subjected to six visitsduring the trial period ( 6 months). Results: There wasstatistically highly significant improvement in the symptoms andurodynamics of the group of patient that received Doxazosineither at the end of the third month or at the end of sixth month.whereas there were no change or even deterioration ofsymptoms and in urodynamics of the group of patients thatreceived Placebo. Conclusion: Doxazosin (selective alpha-1blocker) is an important treatment option for patients with LUTSdue to BPI-I. Urodynamics are very important to evaluate theefficacy of the drugs used to treat LUTS due to BPH.
