Abstract Congenital anomalies of the kidney occupy an important position among renal diseases because of their frequency and diversity of presentation .They must be detected early before renal damage is advanced. Ultrasound has impressed many changes on uroradiology over a quite short time. This important method whilst not replacing existing tests, adds vital new informations . It is proved to be best method for evaluating pediatric urinary tract , since the examination is short , painless , does not require sedation and does not expose the child to ionizing radiation. There are no contraindications to its use, and the test is readily accepted by both the child and parents. Also , it provides valuable informations in the neonatal period , owing to the limited ability of the neonatal kidneys to filter and concentrate contrast material. This thesis was carried out for screening of apparently healthy neonates for detection of various congenital anomalies of the kidney among them using ultrasonography . In our study two hundred neonates were subjected to screening test using ultrasonography. We found two cases harboring silent congenital anomalies of the kidney . One of them was diagnosed as multicystic dysplastic kidney and the other was diagnosed as dilated renal pelvis. |
