Abstract Vitamins (Bios-factors) are essential organic molecules for growth and many biological processes. They are required in minute quantities and the deficiency for one of them may result in a distinct metabolic disturbance. Vitamins of the B-complex series are water soluble and play important roles as coenzymes or constituents part of enzymes in cell biology. Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine one of the most important B-group vitamins which participates in a large number of enzyme systems in living cells. Vitamin B6 is produced either by chemical or biological process. It has been manufactured totally by a chemical process. Despite the high yield produced by the fermentation process and its low cost there is still a competition between bioprocess and chemical synthesis. Therefore, it is desirable to develop a commercially much cheaper microbial production process. Also conventional screening techniques were employed to exploit new vitamin B6 producers of potential industria! interest. |
