Abstract In this study, the aim was evaluating the benefit of the Doppler cerebro-umbilical PI ratio of the fetus, prior to the beginning of induction of labor for predicting intrapartum fetal distress, in cases of prolonged pregnancy. This study comprised 50 primigravidae (21-28 years old) with no history of primary infertility, their gestational ages were 41 weeks or more admitted for termination of pregnancy. All pregnancies were singleton in vertex presentation. Cases with medical or obstetrical disorders were excluded including cases with a non-reactive non-stress test. Flow velocity waveforms of the umbilical and middle cerebral artery were obtained with pulsed Doppler UIS equipment to calculate the Doppler cerebro-umbilical ratio. The cutoff value of the CIU PIs was 1.00 where C/U PIs < 1.00 were considered abnormal. According to the previous findings; two groups were defined; group A (44 patients, C/U 2: 1.00) and group B (6 patients, CIU < 1.00). |
