Abstract

The study aimed to throw a light on the FCS, its precipitating causes incidences clinical and biochemical blood changes accompanying this condition as well as its effects on health and productivity of the affected dairy cows. The study had included two separate parts. The first part was carried out in Egypt and involved a total number of 103 Holstein Friesian dairy cows in three different dairy stations (Abnoub El-Hammam, El-Awamer and Nagie Hammady). This part included 33 clinically healthy cows without apparant symptoms of fat cow syndrome(FCS) and 70 cows suffering from FCS and its associating disorders. Their age varied from 5 to 8 years old and they were in the third to fifth lactation season. The second part of the study was done in United Germany and included a total of 118 Friesian dairy cows having postparturient diseases accompanied with signs of fatty liver in most of them. Ages of these cows varied from 4 to 12 years old.
