Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a condition in which there is growth of bacteria within the urinary tract. It is a clinical entity that may involve the urethra and/or bladder (lower urinary tract) or may involve the ureters, renal pelvis, calyces and/or renal parenchyma (upper urinary tract). Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is one of the most common complications of urinary tract infection and diagnosed by cystourethrograme (VCUG). Child faces the hazard of catheterization and radiation. In the present study we examined 40 cases with urinary tract infection, 23cases were femals and 17 cases were males with age varied from 1 to 10 years. We investigated the cases for pyuria (urine analysis), urine culture and sensitivity, bacterial colony count. In the present study there is heavy common in older patients. The accuracy of Doppler in diagnosing the grades of reflux (in comparison with reflux) was 75% for grade II (3 cases for 4), 80% for grade III (4 cases from 5) and 100% for both grade IV and V. In the present study we tried to use a non-invasive and non-hazardous method to avoid the child from facing complications of catheterization and hazards of radiation. Despite its disadvantages and limitations, color flow Doppler sonography is promising new, non-invasive technique that can act as an adjunct to standard US for the detection and follow-up of have VUR.
