Abstract In the present investigation, In the, a total of 60 isolates were collected from different hospitals. The isolates were identified as Ps. aeruginosa, Ps. fluorescens, S. aureus and CoNS . Ten antimicrobial discs were tested against the isolated strains for determination of their resistance patterns using disc diffusion method. The isolated strains were screened for slime production by adherence assay using tube method and microtiter plate assay. The bactericidal activity of some antimicrobial agents against biofilm forming cells and planktonic cells was determined. The highest slime producing strains of the identified species were used to study the effect of different media, pH and metal ions on slime production and biofilm formation. Crude slime extract was prepared from the highest slime producing strain in order to investigate the permeability of the slime layer to the antimicrobial agents used |
