Abstract Background: Nonbilious vomiting is one of the most irritating problems in infancy and childhood. In the present study 201 cases of nonbilious vomiting were evaluated taking in consideration their clinical assessment, methods of diagnosis ,different lines of treatment and their outcome. Aim of work: To assess cases of surgical non bilious vomiting due to upper gastrointestinal tract cause in the first year of life . Methods: The present study included cases of surgical nonbilious vomiting in the first year of life admitted at the Department of Pediatric Surgery , Mansoura University Children Hospital during the period from October 2002 to February 2006. Results:. Barium study is highly recommended in evaluating cases of nonbilious vomiting as a sensitive diagnostic tool and as a good positive index. However, barium negative cases should be further investigated and confirmed. The performance of floppy Nissen?s fundoplication in cases of GERD with severe clinical presentations, cases with atypical presentations of GERD and cases of recurrent GER after both Nissen?s and Thal fundoplication is highly recommended. Conclusion: Early surgical consultation of cases of persistent vomiting presenting at primary care units is highly recommended However, long term follow up of cases of nonbilious vomiting is highly recommended for a more precise evaluation. |
