Abstract

ACL antibodies have been incriminated as a cause of fetal loss and thrombosis in pregnant women. When they are present continuing pregnancies may be complicated by abortion, intrauterine fetal death, preeclampsia or preterm delivery. The aim of this work is to determine anticardiolipin antibodies (IgG and IgM) level in the serum of pregnant females with history of previous fetal losses. Also to assess the relationship between ACL and the clinical pregnancy outcome. This study was carried out on 80 patients with history of fetal loss including 42 cases with a history of recurrent abortion with mean age (29.04 years ±4.99), and 38 cases with a history of one or more fetal losses as a consequence of preeclampsia with mean age (26.3 years ±5.46), beside 20 apparently healthy pregnant females of matched age who have had at least one full term pregnancy served as a control group. It is concluded that IgG anticardiolipin antibodies are incriminated in recurrent spontaneous abortions and intra uterine fetal deaths, so it could be considered as a reliable marker for screening pregnant women with history of previous fetal loss.
