Abstract The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between forgetting EFL vocabulary and the three selected vocabulary presentation strategies (bilingual lists, contextual and contextual/bilingual lists strategies). It also investigated the relationship between the three selected vocabulary presentation strategies and the four selected parts of speech (verbs, nouns, adjectives and prepositions) in reducing these words forgetting rate. The subjects of this study comprised ninety nine second year students in the preparatory stage at Bent Elshatea Preparatory School for Girls, Damietta. The subjects were randomly selected and distributed into three experimental groups, each one consisted of thirty three students. Each group received one type of the treatment according to the three presentation strategies that were used. Two types of vocabulary tests, Vocabulary Achievement Tests (VAT) and Vocabulary Recall Tests (VRT), were designed by the researcher and validated by jury members. Each test has four forms. The study concluded with the effectiveness of the three selected vocabulary presentation strategies in reducing verbs, nouns and prepositions forgetting rate. While the context strategy was the best one in presenting adjectives and reducing their forgetting rate. |
