Abstract

The study was carried out to detect the production of some bacteria and mushrooms polysaccharides. These substances have been tested with the purpose of finding potential applications for prevention of human diseases such as cancer. The study began with screening number of bacteria for EPS production. Micrococcus roseus was the best EPS producer which produce 800 mg/100 ml EPS if grown on medium containing 4.5 % sucrose, 0.02% ammonium sulphate and pH 7.0 and incubated for 4 days at 25C. Some physicochemical characterization of polysaccharides extracted from Volvariella speciosa and Micrococcus roseus has been done. The evaluation of the role of these polysaccharides substances produced by some mushroom and bacteria as antitumor agents was an important aim in this study and this was done through number of biological experiments to ensure their activities against cancer cells in animal mice. It is recommended to use the polysaccharides extracted from the fruit bodies of mushroom tested in this study as antitumor agents against EAC model of cancer. Further studies on their mode of action directly related to the antitumor activity of these polysaccharides should be conducted in the future to achieve their use in cancer therapy.
