Abstract

DISSERTATION ABSTRACT (ONE PAGE A4) This thesis is devoted to the development of new methods for the analysis of certain calcium channel blockers in pharmaceutical preparations and in biological fluids. The thesis is divided into seven main parts. In Part I. a general introduction about the studied compounds, including a separate literature review for each compound. In Part II, a fluorometric method based on enhancement of the native fluorescence of verapamil hydrochloride in organized media is described. The method was successfully applied for the assay of the drug in its dosage forms, real and spiked human plasma. The application of the method was extended to the stability studies of the drug. Part III. describes a simple kinetic spectrofluorometric method for the determination of certain calcium channel blockers. The method is based upon oxidation of the studied drugs with cerium (IV) ammonium sulphate in acidic medium. In Part IV, highly sensitive synchronous and second derivative synchronous fluorescence spectroscopic methods were developed. On the other hand, Part V provides a reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of nicardipine hydrochloride in the presence of its degradation products. Part VI deals with the application of capillary zone electrophoretic technique for the simultaneous determination of cinnarizine with domperidone or cinnarizine with nicergoline in co-formulated tablets. Part VII describes a stability indicating micellar electrokinetic chromatographic method with acetonitrile stacking for determination of lacidipine in presence of its degradation products.
