Abstract
The thesis is divided into two parts: I- Pharmacognostical and forensic studies of illicit opium and heroin samples The study of these samples includes: 1-Preliminary phytochemical screening. 2-Preparation and identification of some opiates. 3- Qualitative forensic analysis of illicit opium and heroin samples. 4- Quantitative forensic analysis of an illicit opium sample, in which, GC/MS and HPLC analysis of opium were carried out. 5- Quantitative forensic analysis of an illicit heroin sample, in which, GC/MS and HPLC analysis of heroin sample were carried out. 6- Determination of lead and arsenic in illicit opium and heroin samples. They were determined using atomic absorption method. II- Biological study of illicit opium and heroin samples on liver The study of this plant includes: 1- Liver function. In which serum ALT and AST were measured by colorimetric method. 2- Histopathological investigation. In which liver sections were examined using different stains. 3- Determination of heat shock protein-70 (HSP70). Western Dot Blot Technique was used to determine HSP70.
