Abstract

Lower limb varicose veins and their complications are common problems. These complications are in the form of chronic skin changes, superficial thrombophlebitis, bleeding varices, leg ulcerations and recurrent varicose veins. Color duplex imaging is the imaging modality of choice in evaluation of the venous system, venous mapping and refluxing pathways. Color duplex imaging has an important role in the interventional treatment of the complicated varicose veins as ultrasound guided sclerotherapy, ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation and ultrasound guided laser ablation. Color duplex imaging has important role after surgery( ligation and stripping , subfacial , tripple ligation and subfacial endoscopic perforator surgery) and interventional treatment to confirm the complete absence of reflux Routine preoperative duplex examination lead to improvement in the results after surgery for patients with primary varicose veins Our aim of work is to discuss the role of color duplex imaging in diagnosis and treatment of the complications of the lower limb varicosities and to what extent can color duplex imaging help in selection of the suitable therapeutic modality.
